Erika van Leeuwen

My name is Erika van Leeuwen and since 7 January 2013 I am the new intern of the Roosevelt Study Center. I am 22 years old and I graduated my BA International Relations and Organization at the University of Groningen in February 2011. During my Bachelor program, I spent one semester at the Free University of Brussels where I focused mainly on EU history and policy. Besides my university education, I have been actively involved in several student organizations and activities, and I work part-time in a bookstore. In 2009, I participated in the International Research by Students Program for which I enjoyed the opportunity to conduct field research in Beijing.

This internship is part of my Research Master program of Modern History and International Relations. Although I have focused on EU- and non-Western related topics during my BA program, I hope to continue and enhance my US-related research interests. For one of my recent research papers on the US foreign policy in the Congo in 1960, I have used the RSC collections myself and I am looking forward to spend three months in this inspiring research environment. In the middle of the extensive pool of primary documents and other research resources, I not only hope to enhance my research skills and experience, but also to find out whether I would like to pursue a research career.
