Announcement: Roosevelt Lecture with Film Screening, 22 April 2020 POSTPONED!

The RIAS has decided to postpone the Spring Roosevelt Lecture on "The Forgotten Bombardment" with the showing of the film "Days of May" on 22 April 2020 due to the recent, severe COVID-19 circumstances. A new date will be announced as soon as possible.

The lecture by Peter Sijnke will focus on the events in Middelburg on and around 17 May 1940, when an important part of the old town center was destroyed. Despite the major commemoration in 2010 and several publications, including Middelburg 17 mei 1940. Het vergeten bombardement, it is still unknown to many people that Zeeland kept fighting on after 15 May, which put Middelburg right on the frontlines.

 

Poster Days of May

The film by Juri Ferri will show how a Dutch soldier experiences the first days of World War II on the Zeeland Flanders coast. As the country is quickly getting invaded, his faith in God is put to a test. The story is based on the writings and real life experience of Jan Hendrik Smit.

 

 

 

 

The lecture starts at 3.30 p.m. and will be held at the Auditorium (Filmzaal) Provinciehuis, Abdij 9, 4331 BK Middelburg. If you wish to attend, please register at rias@zeeland.nl.
