Justin Hart, 2nd RIAS Visiting Professor in American Studies
The RIAS is pleased to welcome Professor Justin Hart, who joins the RIAS as visiting professor until 17 December 2017.
Justin Hart is currently an associate professor at Texas Tech University, where he teaches on the history of American foreign relations.
His research explores the intersection of domestic politics and American foreign policy. His first book, Empire of Ideas: The Origins of Public Diplomacy and the Transformation of U.S. Foreign Policy (published with Oxford University Press in 2013) explored how and why the United States began, as part of its foreign policy, to reach out to global public opinion. He is also the author of numerous articles and book chapters that address the cultural dimensions of US foreign relations.
While at the RIAS, Professor Hart will be working on his new research project, on the efforts by the Truman administration to introduce universal military training in the United States. On 4 October 2017, he will deliver a public lecture on ‘The Rooseveltian Century in the Age of Trump.’
