Becoming a Friend of the RIAS helps us organize exciting activities, and fulfill our mission to promote a greater understanding of American society and transatlantic relations.
The Friends of the Roosevelt Institute for American Studies Foundation aims to acquire and manage resources for the activities of the Roosevelt Institute for American Studies in Middelburg. Each year, RIAS organizes academic conferences, seminars, and public events on American history and transatlantic themes. Additionally, RIAS offers scholarships to students, doctoral candidates, and scholars who come to Middelburg to conduct research in the RIAS American Library archives. The resources of the Friends Foundation are explicitly intended to contribute to the costs of activities focused on students and doctoral candidates (including student travel grants such as the annual Friends of the RIAS Student Scholarship, student excursions, PhD seminars, and the annual American Studies Day).
Friends of the RIAS can choose from four donation models:
- For € 50 per year, Friends of the RIAS receive a “Good Neighbor” member status.
- For € 100 per year, Friends of the RIAS recieve a “Four Freedoms” member status.
- Friends of the RIAS who donate more than € 250 in a calendar year receive a “VIP” member status.
- Friends for Life—those who donate € 2500 or more—receive a “Golden Member” status.

Friends of the RIAS is a registered charitable foundation with ANBI status in The Netherlands. Donations are tax-deductible.
