From 1 October until 31 December 2025, the RIAS is seeking a new library intern.
The RIAS is an ideal position for a student in American Studies, (American) History, or International Relations who is registered at a Dutch university and has a good command of spoken and written Dutch as well as English. The tasks for the intern include library duties, assisting staff with the organization of activities, maintaining the website and social media, making archival materials accessible to visiting researchers, and providing secretarial assistance. Of course, there is also time for you to do your own research!
The internship is a multi-purpose position that offers numerous learning opportunities, making it especially useful for students considering an academic career or seeking to gain academic work experience. The RIAS is a small institute, so you will be directly involved in managing our organisation’s various activities, with a range of different tasks and opportunities for growth that will emerge along the way.
We can offer an internship payment of approximately €700 per month, with the possibility of compensation towards your housing costs. We will also help you find accommodation.
The RIAS is situated in the heart of Middelburg’s beautiful city center. The RIAS promotes academic research and provides graduate and postgraduate training on the history and culture of the United States and European-American relations in the 20th and 21st centuries. It holds large book and archival collections on these subjects, and its staff regularly provides information to the public. The RIAS is also a meeting place and conference center for European and American historians.
