Our researcher Gaetano Di Tommaso provides an insightful answer to the question “How Should We Deal with Global Warming?” featured on the “Beste-ID” platform.

“Beste-ID” brings together scientists, artists, thinkers, and policymakers to explore pressing social issues and suggest potential solutions. Each December, the platform presents its ‘Annual Question,’ inviting contributors from diverse fields to share their insights and perspectives.

In his contribution, Gaetano Di Tommaso argues that the real challenge is not understanding the climate crisis, but acting on it. Democracies are built for short-term decisions, while climate change demands long-term, systemic transformation. Instead of abandoning democratic principles, he calls for reimagining them — empowering citizens, strengthening long-term commitments, and placing environmental wellbeing at the core of our institutions. His message is clear: meaningful climate action begins with renewing the way we govern our shared future.
