The Netherlands American Studies Association will host the 31st annual Amerikanistendag on Friday, 17 April 2026, at the University of Amsterdam, inviting BA, (Res)MA, and PhD students to present research in progress on the USA and the Americas, with proposals due by 2 March 2026.

The Netherlands American Studies Association will hold its 31st annual Amerikanistendag on Friday, April 17, 2026. The event will be hosted by our colleagues in American Studies at the UvA in coordination with the America in the World Research Group.

The Amerikanistendag is a conference for students and recent graduates at the BA, (Res)MA, and PhD level. The atmosphere is welcoming and collegial, enabling fun connections among new friends. Students who present at the conference will benefit from substantive feedback from their peers and scholars from across Dutch universities, as well valuable conference experience for their CVs. Since this year’s focus is on research in progress, presenters should not feel pressure to deliver perfect presentations and can expect to receive helpful input that moves their research projects forward.

We invite presentations on any topic related to the USA and the Americas. We also welcome approaches from various disciplinary perspectives, including (but not limited to): history, literature, cultural studies, media studies, economics, political science, gender studies, philosophy, and law.

Deadlines and procedures:
By Monday, March 2, 2026, please submit a document to Katy Hull at c.sm.hull@uva.nl with:
– your contact information (an email is sufficient);
– your current status (e.g. a current student at X university, a recent graduate from Y program);
– and a short proposal for your presentation (maximum 200 words).

Accepted presenters will be grouped into sessions chaired by a scholar in American Studies. Presentations will last for a maximum of 15 minutes and will be followed by discussion.

The program will be available in late March at http://netherlands-america.nl.

We will also notify all speakers directly via email.

We look forward to seeing you in Amsterdam in April!
