From Research to Publication:
A PhD Workshop on Networks, Methods & Publishing
On 8 May 2026 (13:00–18:00), RIAS and the Posthumus Institute jointly host the PhD workshop “From Research to Publication” at the RIAS (Hofplein 16, Middelburg), focusing on academic networking, research methods, and strategies for turning doctoral research into publishable work.
The RIAS and the Posthumus Institute (Societies in Context research network) invite PhD candidates to an afternoon workshop focused on a core question of doctoral life: how to build and use scholarly networks to strengthen your research and translate it into publishable work.
This seminar is designed for researchers working on (or adjacent to) social, labor, and environmental history, and it will combine practical discussion, methodological reflection, and concrete publishing guidance.
While the workshop is primarily aimed at PhD candidates, it is open to all interested students and scholars, subject to space availability.
Featured Speaker
Prof. Marc Rodriguez (Portland State University): Editor of the Pacific Historical Review and a leading scholar of Mexican American/Chicanx history, social movements, migration, and U.S. legal history. His books include The Tejano Diaspora (2011) and Rethinking the Chicano Movement (2014).
What we’ll focus on
- Building and leveraging academic networks in environmental, social, and labor history
- Research practice and methodological choices: how to position your work in historiography and debates
- Publishing strategy and the editor’s perspective: submissions, peer review, and practical advice on getting work into print
