Karen Heilemann is the RIAS academic intern from October to December 2026
She holds a BA in American Studies and is currently finishing her MA in North American Studies at the University of Groningen. Her academic interests include the history and culture of social groups such as the LGBTQ+ community, African Americans, and women. She is particularly fascinated by the ways in which TV can be used as a tool to shape both the representation of different social groups and work as a space where identity is negotiated and constantly reshaped. During her internship at the RIAS, she is able to expand on this knowledge by becoming familiar with archival work and learning about academic work beyond the university.
