On 1 October 2021, the RIAS will host an online policy workshop on the decommissioning of nuclear power plants. Plant closure is a challenging and complex procedure both from a regulatory and societal point of view. The RIAS workshop will provide an opportunity for debate on how the process of nuclear decommissioning will be planned and carried out in Zeeland, which lessons can be learned from similar experiences in the United states, and which best practices it is possible to share across the Atlantic. The event is open to the public, will host US and Dutch experts, representatives of the civil society and Melissa Haller, an economic geographer from the University of California who will deliver the 2021 Roosevelt Lecture in Environmental Series.
