The Netherlands American Studies Association (NASA), in cooperation with the RIAS, held the annual Amerikanistendag on Friday 3 June 2022. The event included the ceremony of the Theodore Roosevelt American History Award 2022 (TRAHA), the yearly prize for the best MA thesis in American History and American Studies in the Netherlands.

Every year, the Roosevelt Institute for American Studies organizes the Theodore Roosevelt American History Award (TRAHA), which is presented to the best MA thesis on a topic related to the history of the United States, written at a Dutch university during the previous academic year.

After the opening of the 27th Amerikanistendag, the TRAHA jury 2022, consisting of Damian Pargas (RIAS/UL), Tim Jelfs (RUG), Heleen Blommers (VU), Melanie van der Elsen (2021 TRAHA Winner) announced the winner of this year: Nathaniel Weisberg (University of Amsterdam).

The event included the participation of the honorable US Consul to the Netherlands, Jennifer Walsh.

Nathaniel Weisberg was nominated the winner for his truly illuminating and beautifully written thesis “Fantastic Visions of Unfreedom: Reimagining Mythologies of Black Emancipation through the Works of William Wells Brown, 1848-1880.” The RIAS extends its warmest congratulations to Nathaniel and to all of the nominees!
