Maaike Siemes is an intern at the RIAS from October till the end of December 2023. She is a Master student in American studies and Literary studies at Leiden University. Her academic interests focus on contemporary American literature, centering the themes of migration, social class, African American history, and (generational) trauma. Her current thesis concentrates on the processes of how historical sources are used in fiction, in relation to archival silence.
