Leiden University and the RIAS will host a closed workshop to develop an interdisciplinary BA syllabus on existential risk in the Anthropocene.
Leiden University, in collaboration with the RIAS, will be hosting a two-day workshop to develop an interdisciplinary BA syllabus on the subject of Existential Risk in the Anthropocene. This includes ecological risks like climate change but will incorporate other matters like artificial intelligence, nuclear affairs, and social vulnerability. The workshop will take place on 26-27 March 2026 at the RIAS in Middelburg and will be attended by researchers and academics from a range of disciplines. This event is not open to the public.
The aim of the workshop is to develop a concrete syllabus which includes an overview of how societies (should) deal with risk in the current age of the Anthropocene, learning objectives, literature to assign, and other components which can be adapted to a variety of disciplines. Students who take this course will also have an advantage if they wish to apply for MA/MPhil/MSc programs in (Existential) Risk Studies.
The workshop is funded by an Una Europa Seed Grant; the syllabus can therefore easily be shared amongst Una Europa partners as well as other partner universities.
This event is organized by Maud Rijks and Rob Cullum.
